Dixieland 1920′s Theme Night!

August 15th, 2011

This is not a dance you’ll want to miss as we have the Bill Allred’s Dixieland Jazz Band that will be playing the original hot jazz right out of 1920′s New Orleans! Bill Allred, Bob Pickwood and
Eddie Metz, Jr. are joined by special guest clarinetist Allan Vache’ and veteran jazz players bassist Jerry Bravo and pianist Mark Simmons.

Dixieland music, sometimes referred to as Hot jazz, Early Jazz or New Orleans jazz, is a style of jazz music which developed in New Orleans at the start of the 20th century, and was spread to Chicago and New York City by New Orleans bands in the 1910s. Well-known jazz standard songs from the Dixieland era, such as “Basin Street Blues” and “When the Saints Go Marching In”, are known even to non-jazz fans.

Best Dressed Contest! So start working on that 1920′s outfit and ladies, find that flapper dress because there will be prizes for the best dressed! This will be audience judged, so bring your friends to clap for you! Everyone who dresses up will also receive a discount on the next dance, so everyone’s a winner!

Need to brush up on your Charleston? We’ll be teaching a basic Charleston dance lesson before the dance instead of the usual swing lesson!

Spread the word, a student discounted rate applies to this dance! Admission is only $8 with valid student ID!
